yesterday

do the people that you love know that you love them? without question? without reservation? unconditionally? even on a bad day? tell them. make sure they know.
yesterday there was a tragic wreck, a good friend of mine's cousin was killed along with several other people. did he know that people loved him? before he left for work that day did he know that someone loved him?
yesterday she needed help because her car had broken down. so her daddy, much like my daddy has done numerous times, brought his wrecker to help his little girl. he was going to get her car from the side of the road because he was her daddy and he loved his girl. a hit and run and he was tragically killed. a dad just helping his daughter and gone.
yesterday my good friends were pregnant and preparing for their first child. baby names a plenty, and the anticipation of a boy or girl and when they went to the doctor there was no heart beat.
there is a lot of sadness in the world. there are a lot of unknowns. i always worry that people i love don't know. don't know that i love them with all that i am. i like to tell them, probably too much just so they never wonder, and never doubt. and unfortunately somewhere some one's yesterday was probably worse than all these misfortunes combined.
tell the people that you love, you love them. don't wait. be kind. you never know who's life you might save just because you were kind. smile at a stranger, maybe no one has even looked his way today. respect others. that doesn't happen enough.
but whatever you do love. love hard. love often. and say it. i love you.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 corinthians 13:4-13
